Do you have work-study? Do you like working with kids? Would you like a part-time job experience that is meaningful and rewarding? Consider applying to the America Reads Tutoring Corps!
America Reads is a federal work-study program housed within the Ginsberg Center, and is dedicated to having all children reading well and independently by the end of third grade. UM work-study students are provided transportation to and from elementary schools in Detroit and Ypsilanti twice a week to tutor children in reading and writing.
PREREQUISITES for applying:
1) YOU MUST HAVE WORK-STUDY as part of your financial aid package!
2) You must be available on Mondays & Wednesdays OR Tuesdays & Thursdays during Fall 2011 for one of the following time blocks:
a. 8:00am – 12:00pm
b. 8:30am – 11:30am
c. 9:00am – 12:00pm
d. 12:00pm – 4:00pm
3) Attend two mandatory, paid pre-service training sessions prior to the start of tutoring in mid-September (dates & times TBA).
Starting salary is $9.25/hr. for undergraduate students, $10.00/hr. for graduate students.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, although interviews and job offerings will take place on a first-come, first-serve basis – so apply today! Interviews will take place on campus up through early September. If you are not in town, arrangements can be made for a phone interview.
